
Today, September 15th, we celebrate the 58th Engineers Day and honor the 164th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya – the visionary engineer who transformed modern India.
The Father of Modern Indian Engineering
Born in 1861 in Karnataka, Sir M. Visvesvaraya revolutionized water management and infrastructure planning. Known as the “Father of Modern Mysore,” he served as the 19th Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918.
His Legacy:
- Designer of the famous Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) dam in Mysore
- Created innovative irrigation systems with patented water floodgates
- Established key educational institutions including engineering colleges
- Awarded Bharat Ratna in 1955
